The new wave of website builders is awesome for creating professional looking sites fast. You’ll get a ready-formatted website that you’ll be able to use right away. However, the one thing you’ll want to change is the default stock photo images that are included with your website template or theme. While these stock images are fine as placeholders when your site is first created, you really want to add your own custom identity to your website.
The good news from a photography standpoint is that with the advent of smartphone cameras, everyone has the ability to take photos whenever they want. And if you want to take a step up to even higher quality photos, there are many affordable options with compact or mirrorless cameras, so you no longer need to shell out big bucks for an expensive DSLR to get great images.
The real time consuming area of website photography is processing and actually adding photos to your website. While you might be able to use your images straight from your camera or phone, it’s usually better to spruce them up for a more professional look—and of course you’ll want to add your website or watermark to your images. If you’re a photographer or photo enthusiast like me, you probably prefer to use Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to process your photos. However, don’t worry if you don’t care to spend the money or learn Photoshop. There are easier and simpler ways you can edit photos for your website.
Canva is one of the more popular products that allows you to edit and process photos both for the web and for printed products. And, Canva is especially handy for adding photos to your social media channels. The best part is that you don’t have to spend any money to use it, as Canva provides both free and paid versions. You can also use Google photos for your images. However, the editing features are somewhat limited. There are also many other photo applications online that you can use to process your website’s photos.
Remember, in order to make your website stand out from the crowd; use your imagination–and some of the great photo editing tools that are available. You’ll have a much more interesting, unique, and memorable website that will attract more visitors!
